Prime Minister Anutin Unveils New Thai Government Policy and Action Plan
Brickinfo News Agency – Following a special cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the government’s draft policy statement, which is set to be presented to the Parliament. The policy focuses on addressing four key areas: economic stability, national security, disaster management, and social issues. The government aims to expedite bureaucratic processes and reduce redundancy while maintaining legal integrity to ensure projects are implemented quickly and efficiently.
The cabinet approved the draft policy to guide the administration during its limited tenure. The economic agenda includes measures to reduce living expenses for citizens through programs like the “Half-Half” scheme, and lowering travel, transportation, and energy costs. The government also plans to support the increased and easier use of alternative energy sources. Regarding national security, the policy addresses the Thai-Cambodian dispute, stating that the government will use both diplomatic and military measures to protect national sovereignty and the interests of the Thai people.
For disaster management, the policy outlines a plan to accelerate the development of early warning and prevention systems. It also calls for reforms to regulations and criteria to enable government officials to provide swift and flexible assistance to the public, while ensuring legality and preventing corruption. On social issues, the government will focus on cracking down on large-scale criminal networks, including drug trafficking, gambling, online gambling, and scammers. The policy also mandates strict disciplinary and legal action against government officials who neglect their duties, including immediate dismissal and criminal prosecution.
Prime Minister Anutin stated, “The government affirms it does not support any form of gambling business. There will be no entertainment complexes with casinos, and online gambling will not be legalized.”
The administration also prioritizes addressing low agricultural product prices, specifically for rice and cassava. Measures will be implemented to assist farmers and reduce production costs, particularly for fertilizers. The government will also crack down on the illegal smuggling of agricultural products from neighboring countries, which is a significant factor in the decline of domestic prices. This effort will be paired with developing agricultural production capabilities to promote smart farming.
The Prime Minister added that the government will create a comprehensive public health system to provide convenient access for all age groups, reform education laws, and prepare the country to transition to a low-carbon society to enhance its global competitiveness.
Additionally, the government will hold a referendum on amending the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, allowing for public participation in drafting a new charter. This referendum will be held on the same day as the next general election. The Prime Minister announced his intention to dissolve the House of Representatives within four months of the policy statement to Parliament, with a target of a January 2026 dissolution. This would lead to a general election in March or early April 2026, as determined by the Election Commission.
The cabinet has agreed to send a letter to the Parliament President to schedule the policy statement for September 28–30, 2025. The cabinet has also decided to adjust its working framework to ensure all ministries operate with urgency, reducing bureaucracy while maintaining legal compliance. The Prime Minister emphasized that all cabinet members must be prepared to work seven days a week, a “new dimension” for the Thai cabinet, and that meetings may be held more than once a week if necessary, as national problems cannot wait.
“The cabinet is ready to dedicate our physical, mental, and intellectual energy to perform our duties and serve the best interests of all Thai people, starting from this very moment,” the Prime Minister concluded.
