Thailand Launches First E-Waste Calculator Platform to Standardize National Data

Brickinfo News Agency – Advanced Info Service (AIS) has collaborated with the Pollution Control Department (PCD) and the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) to launch Thailand’s first E-Waste Calculator Platform. The system provides a unified national standard to measure electronic waste management, track environmental impacts, and support evidence-based policymaking, aiming to serve as a regional model for ASEAN.

The platform allows organizations to systematically record e-waste collection data and translate it into measurable environmental outcomes. Users can log waste types and quantities through the official platform, which calculates greenhouse gas emission reductions. The system generates PDF and Excel reports to aid in sustainability reporting and nationwide e-waste analysis.

Currently, Thailand generates approximately 700,000 tons of electronic waste annually, with less than 1% entering proper treatment processes. Through the “Thais Say No to E-Waste” initiative, AIS and its 280 partner organizations have collected 1,301,912 items weighing over 288,346 kilograms since 2019, reducing an estimated 130,700 kilograms of carbon equivalent (kgCO2e).

Mr. Prasert Sirinapaporn, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, stated that the ministry is advancing the draft Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Management Act based on the Extended Producer Responsibility principle. He noted that integrating public and private sector data helps prepare Thailand for future legislation and promotes circular economy principles.

Ms. Kantima Lerlertyuttitham, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at AIS, emphasized that sustainable e-waste management requires reliable data. AIS provided its technological capabilities to build the E-Waste Calculator Platform, enabling organizations to systematically record activities and assess environmental results accurately.

Dr. Surin Worakijthamrong, Director General of the PCD, highlighted that improper dismantling of end-of-life products creates risks of hazardous contamination. Connecting data through the platform enables the PCD to track treated quantities, improve local operational planning, and increase collection efficiency.

Mr. Narkorn Takkavirapat, Executive Director of TGO, added that the organization developed Thailand’s first approach for calculating greenhouse gas reductions from sorting e-waste under the Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS). TGO aims to further develop a methodology for T-VER carbon credit projects to provide incentives for effective waste management.
