Thailand Rejects Foreign Media Reports Alleging Seizure of Cambodian Territory
Brickinfo News Agency – The Joint Information Center on the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation has issued a formal statement denying allegations made by certain foreign media outlets that Thailand used military force to seize Cambodian territory and barred Cambodian citizens from returning to their homes. The center insisted that these reports do not align with the facts or the legal status of the area. Officials clarified that all operations by the Thai side have taken place strictly within Thai territory or in adjacent areas identified as overlapping claims, which are currently subject to bilateral negotiation processes, and do not constitute an act of aggression.

The statement emphasized that Thailand’s actions are primarily aimed at ensuring public safety and protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The operations are intended to control the situation and de-escalate tensions to prevent the conflict from expanding. Thailand maintains that it strictly adheres to the UN Charter and international law, employing force only to the extent that is necessary and proportionate. The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful means and dialogue to resolve the issues. They also urged media outlets to present comprehensive information and use terminology that accurately reflects the legal status of the area to prevent misunderstandings within the international community.
This clarification follows observations made by Mr. Pravit Rojanaphruk, a senior journalist, who highlighted a report by Al Jazeera, a major English-language international broadcaster. The report depicted Thailand as using military force to capture Cambodian land but notably failed to use the term Disputed Territories. This omission has resulted in Thailand appearing in the eyes of the global audience similarly to nations in the Middle East involved in land seizures, effectively portraying the country as an aggressor.
Mr. Pravit questioned whether this narrative stems from a communication failure by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or if the information received by the outside world has eroded trust in the Thai side. He noted that being viewed as an invader and a villain internationally causes immeasurable damage to the country’s reputation. Furthermore, he warned Thai society against staying in an Echo Chamber that irrationally supports war, stating that such an attitude will cause Thailand’s image to crumble. He called on rational citizens not to remain indifferent to the unfolding situation.
