PM Anutin Vows Defense of Sovereignty as Border Clashes Escalate; NSC Authorizes Military Action
Brickinfo News Agency – Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the nation via a televised broadcast on Monday, declaring Thailand’s unwavering commitment to protecting its sovereignty following a series of border clashes with Cambodia that began on December 7, 2025. Speaking from the Ivory Room at Government House, the Premier emphasized that while Thailand did not initiate the conflict, the National Security Council (NSC) has authorized necessary military operations to safeguard territorial integrity and public safety.
During the statement, delivered at 12:20 PM, Mr. Anutin revealed that the government has been monitoring the situation closely. A meeting with the National Security Council convened earlier in the day resulted in a resolution to execute military operations in response to the escalating tensions. The Prime Minister asserted that the government will proceed in accordance with the NSC’s resolution to take action in “every case” dictated by the conditions on the ground, reaffirming Thailand’s right to self-defense under international law to maintain territorial integrity.
Addressing the nature of the conflict, the Prime Minister stressed that Thailand “has never been the initiator or aggressor” in any form but will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty. He expressed full confidence in the Royal Thai Armed Forces, noting that troops are performing their duties with prudence under strict rules of engagement and humanitarian principles to protect civilians and maintain order along the border.
The government has also directed immediate assistance to residents in affected border areas who have been forced to evacuate to temporary shelters. Mr. Anutin assured that all relevant agencies have been ordered to provide comprehensive care, including accommodation, food, drinking water, medical services, and necessary welfare to ensure the well-being of displaced citizens to the fullest extent.
To prevent public panic and ensure information accuracy, the Prime Minister urged citizens to monitor news solely from official government channels. He has designated the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the primary communicators regarding the situation. The government stated it will integrate data across all armed forces and security agencies to ensure that information released to the public is clear, correct, and unified.
Concluding his statement, Mr. Anutin reiterated that the protection of the nation and the safety of its people is the government’s highest mission. He stated that while Thailand does not desire violence and prioritizes peace and stability, the administration stands ready to implement all necessary measures to defend the Kingdom. He called on the public to trust in the government and the potential of the Thai Army during this critical period.
