Government and Tourism Sectors Unite to Target Nominee Businesses and Deploy Second-Half Tourism Stimulus
Brickinfo News Agency – Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports is establishing a specialized task force from the central administration to systematically crack down on illegal foreign nominees and immigration violators across the country’s major travel destinations. Concurrently, the ministry is partnering with private tourism associations to launch a major economic stimulus package for the second half of the year. The government confirmed that any digital campaigns under this initiative will leverage existing mobile applications rather than introducing new platforms.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports will officially issue an order to form this specialized operational team to tackle local influence and administrative barriers in regional areas. The central task force will systematically address high-priority security issues including foreign nationals overstaying their visas, undocumented workers, and illegal drug trafficking in tourist hubs. The group will work in continuous coordination with the Tourist Police and the Royal Thai Police to enforce structural legal compliance nationwide.
“The ministry is about to sign an executive order appointing a dedicated task force to combat nominees and illegal activities within the tourism sector,” stated Surasak Phancharoenworakul, the Minister of Tourism and Sports. “This group will function as a central rapid-deployment unit traveling to key destinations across the nation. By utilizing central personnel, we aim to minimize local influential interference and provide robust logistical support to regional officers so they can operate smoothly and effectively.”
In tandem with regional crackdowns, security protocols at international airports are being reinforced under executive directives from the Ministry of Transport. Security screeners will increase inspection stringency for both inbound and outbound baggage. While outbound checks traditionally prioritized explosive detection, security personnel will expand screening parameters to intercept narcotics and contraband, ensuring broader safety standards across all checkpoints.
To address economic growth, the ministry is establishing a joint policy steering committee alongside prominent private trade associations. The alliance includes the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), the Thai Tourism Industry Association, the Thai Hotels Association, and commercial transport operators. The private entities will collaborate directly with public officials to design targeted incentives, travel subsidies, and regional tourism development campaigns connecting primary provinces to secondary cities.
Minister Surasak affirmed that the upcoming stimulus programs will rely strictly on established digital infrastructure to ensure consumer clarity. The government will integrate new private-sector proposals directly into current digital systems, such as the widely adopted Paotang application, instead of funding entirely new platforms.
“We want to thoroughly listen to stakeholders from every sector instead of having the government formulate policies in isolation and imposing them on the industry,” Surasak added. “This collaborative approach ensures that our final legal and economic measures deliver the highest possible utility to the Thai tourism ecosystem.”
