Thailand Reaffirms Right to Self-Defense Amid Cambodian Ceasefire Violations

Brickinfo News Agency – The Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF) announced on July 29, 2025, that Thailand is exercising its right to self-defense under international law following alleged continued cross-border attacks by Cambodian forces. This comes after both nations agreed to a ceasefire effective midnight on July 28, 2025, aimed at fostering peace and cooperation.
Major General Vithai Laithomya, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, confirmed that Thailand had adhered strictly to the ceasefire agreement, halting all offensive actions at the designated time. Despite this, the RTARF stated that Cambodian forces have continued to fire into Thai territory at multiple locations since the agreement took effect. Thailand views these actions as a deliberate violation of the ceasefire and a breach of trust.
The Royal Thai Armed Forces condemned Cambodia’s actions, emphasizing that Thailand’s responses are not aggressive but are necessary measures to protect national sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens.
Major General Vithai stated, “When we stop, but they do not… the world must know that Cambodia is the violator—persistently breaching the agreement, disregarding international norms, and showing contempt for global commitments. Cambodia now poses a threat to both regional and global security.”
The RTARF also highlighted that tolerating such behavior could normalize injustice within the international system. Consequently, the Royal Thai Armed Forces is calling on the international community to uphold principles of truth, justice, and international law to achieve lasting peace.
