Thailand and Cambodia Agree to Immediate Ceasefire After Five Days of Clashes

Brickinfo News Agency – Thailand and Cambodia have reached an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective midnight, July 28, 2025, following five days of intense border clashes. This breakthrough came during a special meeting chaired and hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya. The meeting saw the participation of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, with support from the United States and China, both actively promoting a peaceful resolution.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the agreement alongside the acting Prime Minister of Thailand and the Prime Minister of Cambodia. He stated that both nations confirmed their intent for an immediate ceasefire.

The special meeting in Putrajaya was co-organized by the United States, with the active participation of the People’s Republic of China. U.S. President Donald J. Trump had been in direct contact with the leaders of both countries, urging them to find a peaceful solution. Similarly, the Chinese side maintained close contact with Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and other relevant countries, actively promoting dialogue, a ceasefire, and the restoration of peace. The presence and collaboration of all parties involved underscored a shared commitment to regional stability.

The two countries have agreed to the following terms:

• An immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective 24:00 hours (local time) on July 28, 2025. This is a vital first step towards de-escalation and the restoration of peace and security.
• To convene an informal meeting of regional commanders (Regional Military 1 and 2 from the Thai side, and Regional Military 4 and 5 from the Cambodian side) at 07:00 hours on July 29, 2025. This will be followed by a meeting with the Defense Attachés led by the Chair of ASEAN, if both sides agree.
• To convene a meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on August 4, 2025, to be hosted by Cambodia.

Malaysia, currently serving as the Chair of ASEAN, has stated its readiness to coordinate an observer team to verify and ensure the implementation of the ceasefire. Malaysia will also consult with fellow ASEAN Member States to participate in this observation effort, reflecting a broader regional commitment to supporting peace on the ground. Both sides also agreed to resume direct communications between their Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers, and Defense Ministers. Instructions have been given to the Foreign and Defense Ministers of Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand to develop a detailed mechanism for the implementation, verification, and reporting of the ceasefire, which will serve as a foundation for sustained peace and accountability.
