Brickinfo News Agency – The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has addressed the recent flooding at the Thailand Cultural Centre MRT Station, which occurred on the evening of September 5, 2025. The incident, which saw floodwater inundate parts of the station, was not due to a failure in the station’s design but rather linked to ongoing construction of a skywalk connecting the station to the AIA building.

According to MRTA, an investigation found that the flooding was caused by heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm, which resulted in a significant amount of water on Ratchadaphisek Road. This water then flowed into the construction area for the skywalk and entered the station through an open ventilation shaft located at street level. The shaft is part of the ongoing construction at the connection point between the AIA building and the station’s second entrance.

Following the incident, MRTA staff placed sandbags to block the ventilation shaft and stop the water flow. The station was cleaned and resumed normal service. However, entrances two and three remain closed to the public. MRTA has ordered a temporary halt to the construction of the walkway and has mandated that the developer, AIA, implement additional measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

MRTA has stated that all stations under its supervision are designed and constructed to withstand flash flooding. The authority emphasized that this particular event was not related to the station’s structural design or flood protection systems.
