Thailand’s 2nd Army Area Command Launches Military Operations Against Targets Along Cambodian Border
Brickinfo News Agency – The 2nd Army Area Command has officially announced the execution of military operations against specific targets along the Thai-Cambodian border on December 8, 2025. Citing the need to neutralize imminent threats to national security and civilian safety, the army engaged in strategic strikes to degrade opposing military capabilities within the designated Line of Operation, while stating that all actions adhered to international rules of engagement.
According to the military’s statement, the response was triggered by intelligence indicating significant movement by Cambodian forces, including the mobilization of heavy weaponry, combat formations, and preparations for fire support. These activities were identified as direct threats to the stability of the border region and the safety of Thai residents living nearby. Consequently, the Thai military initiated operations aimed at intercepting and dismantling these capabilities to the extent necessary to maintain state security.
The operation comprised five key tactical actions carried out across multiple provinces. These included the destruction of abandoned buildings reportedly used by scammer networks at Chong An Ma in the Nam Yuen district of Ubon Ratchathani, and the neutralization of Anti-Drone towers in the Preah Vihear and Huai Ta Maria areas of Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket. Additionally, troops cleared cashew plantations that had encroached upon the operational line near Chong Rayi, east of Chong Chom.
Further strategic moves included the seizure of control at Prasat Khana in the Kap Choeng district of Surin, and the destruction of supply cable cars at Hill 350 near Ta Khwai Castle. The military has also issued a warning regarding potential retaliation, anticipating that Cambodian forces may utilize BM-21 multi-barrel rocket launchers during nighttime hours. The assessment suggests these strikes could target civilian areas or previously hit locations to generate confusion on the battlefield.
The 2nd Army Area Command emphasized that these missions were conducted under the Right of Self-Defence as outlined in the United Nations Charter. The operations reportedly followed the principles of Necessity and Proportionality, focusing strictly on military infrastructure, arms depots, command centers, and logistical routes. The command reiterated its primary goal is to protect the lives and property of citizens and to prevent the situation from escalating into further violence.
