Heavy Clashes Erupt Along Thai-Cambodian Border; Over 125,000 Civilians Evacuated Amid Khmer’s Rocket and Drone Attacks
Brickinfo News Agency – The security situation along the Thai-Cambodian border has escalated significantly as of the morning of December 9, 2025. Following a series of coordinated early morning assaults involving BM-21 multiple-launch rockets and drone warfare, Thai military forces have engaged in defensive operations to maintain control of strategic positions. The intensified conflict has necessitated the evacuation of over 125,000 residents across four northeastern provinces as projectiles have reportedly impacted civilian residential areas.
According to the 2nd Army Area Operations Center, attacks commenced at 04:50 hours, with Cambodian forces launching continuous strikes against Thai bases. The offensive utilized BM-21 rockets, bomb-dropping drones, and kamikaze drones targeting defensive lines at Chong Bok, Ta Kwai Temple, and Kana Temple. The fighting has been particularly intense around Phu Ma Khuea and Ta Muen Thom Temple, where opposing forces launched heavy assaults in an attempt to retake these locations. Thai troops responded with direct and indirect fire systems, reportedly inflicting damage on the opposing capabilities and maintaining their hold on key areas according to the operational plan.
In parallel with the combat operations, international monitors have arrived on the scene. A delegation from the ASEAN Observers Team in Thailand (AOT-TH) visited Sunpasitthiprasong Camp Hospital to inspect patients and interview personnel injured during a separate ambush at Phu Pha Lek Base in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province.
The humanitarian impact of the conflict is widening. Authorities have established 492 temporary shelters across four border provinces, currently accommodating a total of 125,838 evacuees. The breakdown of displaced persons includes 51,781 in Surin, 45,914 in Sisaket, 22,580 in Ubon Ratchathani, and 5,563 in Buri Ram. Additionally, 75 specific evacuation points have been set up to care for 3,123 individuals classified as vulnerable groups. To support the agricultural sector affected by the fighting, the Army Veterinary Department has distributed 12,000 bales (24,000 kg) of dried hay to feed livestock owned by displaced farmers.
Citing operational security concerns, the 2nd Army Area has issued a request for public cooperation to refrain from sharing photographs, video clips, or information regarding troop movements. Military officials emphasized that silence on these matters is crucial to safeguard frontline personnel and ensure the effectiveness of ongoing operations. Updates are being routed through official government channels to prevent intelligence leaks.
