AIS, Central Group, and Japan Airlines Collaborate on E-Waste Disposal Campaign
Brickinfo News Agency – AIS, in partnership with Central Group and Japan Airlines (JAL), has launched the “Film Your E-Waste Drop & Fly to Japan for Free!” campaign to promote the proper disposal of electronic waste. The initiative encourages participants to create short videos showcasing their creative ideas for E-Waste disposal, with the chance to win a trip to Japan. This collaboration aims to raise public awareness about the environmental impact of E-Waste and to provide accessible disposal channels. The winning trip will include a visit to a DOWA Group company in Japan to study the country’s E-Waste management and recycling ecosystem. The campaign runs until November 30, 2025.
Since 2020, AIS has worked with Central Group to establish over 42 E-Waste drop-off points nationwide, making it easier for the public to dispose of electronic devices responsibly. Saichon Submakudom, Head of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs Business Unit at AIS, stated, “We are committed to becoming Thailand’s HUB of E-Waste and to addressing this issue in a sustainable way under our mission ‘Thai Say No to E-waste.’ Every piece of E-Waste deposited with AIS is guaranteed to be handled properly—leaving no residue and avoiding landfill—under the Zero E-Waste to Landfill standard.” AIS’s partner in this effort is Waste Management Siam (WMS), a member of Japan’s DOWA Group.
Achara Wisuttiwongrat, Head of Corporate Marketing, Communication & Sustainability at Central Group, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability through the “Love The Earth – ZERO WASTE NOW” project. She said, “We have set a target to reduce landfill waste by at least 30% by 2030, and to achieve zero landfill waste by 2050. This project brings together collaboration from all sectors with the approach of ‘reducing’ unnecessary material use, ‘sorting’ waste at the source, and ‘managing’ it properly.” She also noted that the E-Waste collection points at Central shopping centers have received a positive response from customers.
Japan Airlines is providing the flights for the campaign as part of its “Green Journey” and carbon neutrality goals. Takafumi Sawada, Regional Manager Thailand, Indochina, and the South Asian Subcontinent at Japan Airlines, said the company aims to “achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 by reducing carbon dioxide emissions and adopting Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).” The airline is also following the 3R+1R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle + Redesign) to reduce its environmental impact.
Yoshihiro Okada, President of WMS, explained his company’s role, stating, “Our DOWA Group has been an expert in mining and metal smelting for over 140 years. Today, we have shifted our business direction to address the depletion of natural resources by turning E-Waste into a valuable source of raw materials for precious metal extraction.” He added that WMS believes “E-Waste is not waste, but a valuable resource.”
