Border Conflict Intensifies: Thailand Responds to Cambodian Attacks
Brickinfo News Agency – Border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia escalated on July 24, 2025, following a Cambodian offensive at approximately 8:20 AM. The conflict, which began opposite the Moo Pa Base, east of Ta Muean Temple, led to immediate retaliation from Thai forces. The fighting has resulted in significant damage to civilian areas in Thailand and casualties, prompting calls from the Royal Thai Army’s 2nd Army Area Operations Center for Cambodia to cease targeting non-military objectives.

The Cambodian offensive reportedly saw two Cambodian tanks destroyed in the area opposite Don Tual Temple. Simultaneously, Cambodian forces fired BM.21 rockets into Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, impacting a gas station. Engagements were also reported in the Preah Vihear area, extending from Wat Kaeo to Phu Makuea, with both sides maintaining their positions. In the Chong Chom area, Cambodian forces allegedly used supporting fire against civilian targets, including the Professional College in Sangkha District, Surin Province, the Thai-Cambodian Border Development Center, and Thai residential homes. Furthermore, following the closure of tourism at Ta Muean Thom Temple, Cambodian forces reportedly initiated an assault on Thai positions and continued to target civilian areas with supporting fire, with no signs of de-escalation.
In response to the escalating situation, Thai authorities initiated the evacuation of civilians from eight districts: Ban Kruat District in Buriram Province; Phanom Dong Rak, Kap Choeng, and Sangkha Districts in Surin Province; Kantharalak District in Sisaket Province; and Nam Khun, Nam Yuen, and Na Chaluai Districts in Ubon Ratchathani Province. Evacuees were moved to designated civilian assembly points as per established plans. Field kitchens have been deployed to provide food and support to provincial agencies assisting the affected population.
The conflict has caused damage in 11 areas. These include Nong Raet Village, Bak Dai Sub-district, Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province, which sustained 10 artillery shell impacts; Phue Village, Nong Ya Lat Sub-district, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, where BM.21 rockets struck the PTT gas station and Border Patrol Police Company 224; and Dom Pradit Sub-district, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, which reported no injuries. Other affected areas in Buriram Province include Khilek Village, Ban Kruat Sub-district (5 artillery shells); Sai Tho 10 Tai Village, Moo 2, Sai Taku Sub-district (10 artillery shells); Kruat Village, Moo 3 and Moo 5, Ban Kruat Sub-district (7 artillery shells); Sai Tho 12 Tai Village, Moo 16, Sai Taku Sub-district (3 artillery shells); and Khok Krachai Village, Sai Taku Sub-district (3 artillery shells). The clashes have resulted in 32 casualties, with 20 individuals injured and 12 fatalities.
The Royal Thai Army’s 2nd Army Area Operations Center condemned Cambodia’s alleged attacks on Thai civilian areas, urging an immediate halt to such actions in accordance with international humanitarian law, which stipulates that only military objectives should be targeted. The statement emphasized Thailand’s commitment to the rule of law and universal humanitarian values while asserting that it would not tolerate any attacks that violate its sovereignty or undermine national dignity.
