AI-Driven Fraud Escalates in Thailand: KTC Outlines Defense Against Voice Cloning and Hyper-Realistic Scams
Brickinfo News Agency – As financial technology evolves, so do the methods of criminals. Krungthai Card Public Company Limited (KTC) has issued a comprehensive advisory regarding the rising sophistication of AI-powered scams in Thailand for 2025. Moving beyond traditional phishing techniques, these new threats utilize artificial intelligence to mimic human behavior and legitimate banking interfaces, creating a digital landscape where distinguishing between genuine interactions and fraud has become increasingly difficult for consumers.
The report highlights a significant shift towards generative AI fraud, where perpetrators can now clone voices within seconds using short audio clips harvested from social media platforms or chat applications. This technology allows scammers to convincingly impersonate family members or trusted acquaintances, calling victims to request urgent fund transfers or One-Time Passwords (OTPs). In addition to voice mimicry, fake websites have become hyper-realistic, featuring near-identical URLs, perfect logos, and chatbots that simulate real customer service agents to deceive users into surrendering their data.
To combat these advanced threats, experts advise consumers to adopt proactive security measures. A key recommendation involves establishing family “secret codes” or specific questions that AI cannot answer to verify identities during suspicious calls. Security protocols such as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) are deemed essential for all financial accounts, as AI capabilities can now decipher complex passwords. Furthermore, users are strongly urged to access services strictly through official applications or websites and to avoid clicking links sent via SMS or chat messages, as banks do not distribute links through these channels.
On the institutional side, KTC has integrated machine learning into its 24/7 fraud detection systems to analyze spending patterns and flag anomalies instantly. A dedicated fraud monitoring team is in place to contact cardholders immediately upon detecting high-risk activities. The company also emphasizes the importance of real-time spending alerts via the KTC Mobile application and LINE OA, which provide users a critical window to block cards immediately if unauthorized transactions occur.
Recognizing that public awareness is a critical line of defense, the company continues to disseminate updates on cybersecurity trends through its KTC Cyber Alert channels on platforms like TikTok and Facebook. With financial threats evolving daily, relying on outdated defensive knowledge is no longer sufficient, prompting a push for continuous consumer education regarding the latest digital risks in 2025.
