Mr. Jirayu Houngsup, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, reported that Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Interior Minister Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, along with Foreign Minister Mr. Maris Sangiampong, Deputy Defense Minister General Natthapol Nakpanich, and Secretary-General to the Prime Minister Mr. Prommin Lertsuridej, collectively presented the government’s stance on the border developments.
Mr. Phumtham stated that the Thai government has made significant efforts to de-escalate the border clashes swiftly. He reiterated Thailand’s adherence to the ceasefire agreement reached in Putrajaya, Malaysia, which was intended to prioritize the well-being of the people and the sovereignty of both nations, as well as the lives and property of their citizens and soldiers. This pursuit of peace, he noted, aligns with the international community’s expectations.

However, according to the Thai government, Cambodian forces have violated the ceasefire agreement by firing upon Thai troops in multiple areas, necessitating a decisive and appropriate response from the Thai military to protect sovereignty and civilian lives. Thailand has protested these actions to the ASEAN Chairman, the United States, and the People’s Republic of China, who served as witnesses to the original negotiations. The Thai government asserts that these violations demonstrate Cambodia’s clear lack of sincerity and commitment to the agreement.
In response to the current situation, the government has instructed all branches of the armed forces to maintain their positions, ensuring the full protection of Thai sovereignty and the safety of its people. Thailand has declared it will not permit any encroachment on its territory. Earlier today, military commanders from both countries held discussions to explore solutions, and Thailand remains prepared for further high-level negotiations as previously agreed, aiming to prevent additional casualties among both civilians and military personnel. The Thai government expressed confidence that its adherence to international principles, humanitarianism, and human rights will be evident to the global community, forming a foundation for substantiating facts in subsequent stages once the ceasefire is fully established.
The government urged the public to rely on official channels for updates and has tasked the Ministry of Interior and related agencies with providing immediate assistance to affected residents along the border, particularly regarding evacuation efforts. The government assured that all resources at evacuation centers are being fully utilized to facilitate the public’s needs.
Mr. Phumtham also honored the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the nation’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens. He cautioned the public against falling victim to disinformation or political ploys from Cambodia designed to create internal division. Team Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to diligently serving the nation’s interests and its people.
