Brickinfo News Agency – Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is implementing a comprehensive operational plan to manage a projected 1.82 million passengers during the upcoming Songkran Festival, focusing on digital processing systems and expanded transport capacity to mitigate holiday congestion. Between April 10 and 19, 2026, Thailand’s primary international gateway expects to handle an average of 182,000 travelers per day across approximately 11,000 flights, marking a shift toward increased flight frequency despite a slight dip in total passenger volume compared to the previous year.

Mr. Kittipong Kittikachorn, General Manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport, revealed that while total passenger numbers are expected to see a 1.9% decrease from last year, flight movements are projected to rise by 4.6%. To support this demand, nine airlines have requested 130 additional and charter flights. According to Kittipong, the airlines leading this surge in holiday traffic include Air Macau, Bangkok Airways, and Thai VietJet Air.

To streamline the passenger journey, the airport is prioritizing technology-based solutions to reduce wait times at check-in and security checkpoints. Travelers are encouraged to utilize Common Use Self Service (CUSS) kiosks and Common Use Bag Drop (CUBD) systems. Furthermore, biometric identification technology will be deployed for faster verification, aimed at simplifying document handling and reducing physical bottlenecks at key service points during peak hours.

Regarding ground logistics, Suvarnabhumi Airport has coordinated with providers of taxis, limousines, public buses, and the Airport Rail Link to ensure vehicle availability matches the influx of travelers. Safety protocols have been heightened for the period, including mandatory driver screenings for alcohol and drug use, as well as regular vehicle inspections.

As a gesture to assist travelers during the long holiday, the airport will provide free parking at the Long-Term Parking Area, Zone C. This waiver is effective from 12:01 a.m. on April 11 until midnight on April 15, 2026. To facilitate movement between the parking zone and the main terminals, a 24-hour shuttle bus service will operate at 15-minute intervals throughout the five-day period.
