Finger Eleven Announces First New Album in a Decade, ‘Last Night on Earth’
Brickinfo News Agency – Veteran Canadian rock band Finger Eleven is set to release their first studio album in 10 years, titled “Last Night on Earth,” on November 7 via Better Noise Music. The announcement comes as the multi-platinum group, known for hits like “Paralyzer,” wraps up a tour across America with former labelmates Creed. The new album’s second single, “Blue Sky Mystery,” featuring Richard Patrick of Filter, was released on August 1.
Guitarist Rick Jackett shared that the energy from their recent tour played a key role in the album’s creation. “People were just smiling the whole time—it was contagious,” Jackett said. “We forgot we had so many friends in America. That was a cool feeling.”
Vocalist Scott Anderson explained the concept behind “Blue Sky Mystery,” a song he says is about the nature of obsession. “The more it’s in front of you, the less you understand it, the more you’re obsessed with it,” he noted. “You can’t get your mind around it, or away from it.” Guitarist James Black mentioned the track’s original title, “10 Ton Saber,” saying he “just pictured some guy in Star Wars with an enormous, bazooka-sized lightsaber.”
Richard Patrick, who collaborated on the single, praised the band, stating, “Working with Scott, James, Rick, Sean and Steve could not have gone smoother. They are good guys and total pros.” He added that the collaboration was a long time coming. “Coincidentally, Filter is also celebrating its 30th Anniversary and we’ve never had the opportunity to work with Finger Eleven before, save for an appearance at a festival together somewhere. Recording ‘Blue Sky Mystery’ was a lot of fun.”
The new album will also feature the high-octane track “Adrenaline,” which was previously released and reached the Top 20 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart in the U.S. and held a strong position in the Top 5 in Canada. According to Jackett, the new record marks a return to the band’s earlier, “big rock” sound. “As we were making ‘Last Night On Earth,’ there was this feeling that we were making a big rock record,” he said. “We had done that early in our career, and then we veered away from it. But it was time to go back and embrace that bigness of the sound. Even the soft songs sound big.” The album will explore themes like pushing through adversity, as in “Adrenaline,” and the creative process in the track “The Mountain.”
The group, originally from Burlington, Ontario, gained international recognition with their self-titled album and the hit single “One Thing.” Their 2007 album, “Them vs. You vs. Me,” produced the international smash hit “Paralyzer,” which went 5x Platinum and won a Juno Award for Rock Album. Their 2023 “Greatest Hits” collection included “Together Right,” a track that topped radio charts for five weeks.
