Brickinfo News Agency – Advanced Info Service (AIS) has officially deployed Southeast Asia’s first “5G-Advanced” network standard in Thailand, signaling a shift toward more intelligent digital infrastructure. By integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Carrier Aggregation technology across multiple frequency bands, the telecommunications provider aims to increase data speeds and network efficiency. This development is positioned as a foundational step for the country’s transition from 5G toward future 6G capabilities, focusing on improved performance for both individual consumers and enterprise sectors.

The technical core of AIS 5G-Advanced involves the use of 5G SA Carrier Aggregation, specifically Downlink 3CC and Uplink 2CC. This technology allows the network to combine several frequency bands—including 700 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2600 MHz—to work as a single pipe. According to technical specifications, this integration increases download speeds by approximately 1.5 times and upload speeds by up to 2 times compared to standard 5G. To manage this complexity, AIS is utilizing an Autonomous Network powered by AI to analyze and respond to traffic conditions in real-time.

Current coverage for the 5G SA Downlink 3CC service is concentrated in Bangkok’s Sathon and Bang Rak districts, with expansion to broader metropolitan areas planned by 2026. Meanwhile, the 2CC version is already active across Bangkok and major city centers nationwide. Regarding upload capabilities, the 2CC uplink is available in parts of the Northeastern region and the capital, with a goal of nationwide coverage in major cities within the next two years. Users with compatible devices in these areas will see a “5G+” symbol on their screens to indicate they are connected to the advanced network.

Mr. Wasit Wattanasap, Head of Nationwide Operations and Support Business Unit at AIS, stated: “AIS’ key mission is to strengthen Thailand’s digital infrastructure, making it more robust, modern, and ready to support the continued growth of the digital economy. At the heart of this infrastructure is the mobile network, which serves as a vital artery of connectivity, linking people, businesses, industries, government agencies, and digital services together.”

He further noted that the evolution of the network is no longer just about speed but about building national capabilities. “The launch of AIS 5G-ADVANCED marks another important step in AIS’ journey to transform 5G from a connectivity network into an intelligent digital platform that can help drive Thailand’s economy and society over the long term. This is achieved through the integration of three core strengths: Partnership, through collaboration with world-class device partners; AI, which enhances intelligent network management; and Innovation.”

Beyond connectivity, the provider is incorporating AI-driven security features through AIS SAFE CONNECT, designed to alert users of suspicious calls. This system works in conjunction with the *1185# reporting service and a dedicated hotline to block fraudulent numbers and SMS messages. These security measures are integrated into the broader 5G-Advanced rollout to address the growing need for digital safety alongside increased network performance.
