Preliminary investigations suggest the assailant was a former security guard at the same location where the three initial security guard victims were employed. The shooting, which took place around 12:31 PM, involved the use of a firearm by a male suspect. Police confirmed a total of six deaths, including the shooter. Authorities are currently working to identify the individual and determine the motive behind the attack.
Police General Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, has instructed the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) to conduct a comprehensive investigation. This includes gathering all available evidence and reviewing CCTV footage to establish the facts of the case and ensure a swift resolution. The MPB has been tasked with providing updates to the media.
As authorities secured the scene, Police Lieutenant General Jirabhop Bhuridej, Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, along with senior officers from the Crime Suppression Division, arrived to assess the situation. This followed media reports that the assailant had targeted a donation center run by social activist “Kan Chompalang.” Subsequently, Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), accompanied by high-ranking metropolitan police officers from both investigation and inquiry units, also arrived at the scene. They later brought the assailant’s wife, a vendor at the market, to Apsorn Kitchen in front of Or Tor Kor Market for over two hours of questioning.
Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom informed the media that the perpetrator, identified as Mr. Noi Praidaen, hijacked a taxi near SC Park intersection and instructed the driver to take him to Or Tor Kor Market. Mr. Noi explicitly told the taxi driver his intention was to shoot a security guard at the market and forced the driver to enter through Gate 1, the main office entrance. Upon exiting the vehicle, Mr. Noi encountered three security guards at the entrance. He immediately drew a 9mm CZ pistol, for which he had a valid permit (Por 4) issued in Nakhon Ratchasima since 2018, and shot one guard. The other two security guards attempted to flee but were shot and killed in the parking lot, approximately 20 meters from the gate. Mr. Noi then proceeded to inquire about Mr. Nan, learning he was in the guard booth in front of Krungthai Bank. He followed and shot Mr. Nan.
Police Lieutenant General Siam further explained that Mr. Nan was a security guard with whom Mr. Noi harbored deep-seated resentment and a long-standing feud dating back to 2019-2020. CCTV footage revealed that after shooting Mr. Nan, Mr. Noi’s gun ran out of ammunition. He then reloaded his weapon before entering the market and shooting three vendors whose stalls were next to his wife’s. One vendor died instantly, while the other two sustained injuries. Afterward, Mr. Noi sat on a bench in the middle of the market and used his firearm to take his own life.
The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau also stated that Mr. Noi’s wife revealed her husband was very fond of his car. The animosity stemmed from an incident where Mr. Noi, while dropping off his wife at the market, found his car had been extensively scratched. He became convinced that a security guard was responsible and filed a complaint with the market’s grievance center. However, as Mr. Noi was intoxicated at the time, officials did not accept the complaint and asked him to return on a working day. This incident, combined with Mr. Noi’s tendency to become violent when intoxicated, resurfaced frequently and led to him regularly assaulting his wife.
Mrs. Thitaree Tadeey, 52, the assailant’s wife, stated that she owns a processed fruit stall named “Nong Paew” at Or Tor Kor Market. Her husband used to help her sell, but due to economic downturns and a smaller stall, she now manages it alone. Her husband had not entered the market since the New Year but would drive her there. He avoided entering because of a long-standing conflict with a security guard since 2019. Mrs. Thitaree recounted that her husband’s Isuzu pickup truck (license plate Kor Tor 7271 Bangkok), equipped with front and rear cameras, recorded one of the deceased security guards scratching his vehicle. This led to continuous arguments and deep-seated resentment, particularly given her husband’s strong attachment to his car. On the morning of the incident, her husband drove her to the market as usual. Later, before driving home, he called her before noon and asked for forgiveness, which she did not think much of at the time, never anticipating such an event. She added that the three vendors involved were on good terms with her and her husband, and she believes her husband may have lost control when he shot them.
Mr. Atthakorn Siritaruyakorn, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, visited the scene after the incident, expressing his condolences for the tragedy. He affirmed that support and benefits would be provided to the victims and injured parties. He also emphasized that the incident would be thoroughly reviewed to inform future safety protocols, reiterating that this was a personal dispute unrelated to the market’s operations. The two injured vendors were transported to Phayathai Phaholyothin Hospital and are in stable condition with only superficial bullet wounds to their arms. Furthermore, Police Major General Wathee Assawutthamangkul, Commander of the Forensic Science Division, along with forensic officials, also arrived at the scene to conduct their investigations.
