Thailand’s Labor Minister visits COD and MGM Eyes Macau Expansion to Boost Global Career Paths for Thai Youths
Brickinfo News Agency – Thailand’s Minister of Labor, Julapun Amornvivat, has concluded high-level discussions in Macau with global hospitality giants COD Resorts Limited and MGM Grand Paradise Limited. The strategic visit aimed to strengthen international confidence in Thai labor potential and facilitate career opportunities for fresh graduates. By aligning with the government’s “Learn to Earn” policy, the Ministry intends to refine vocational training to meet international standards, ensuring that Thai workers remain the preferred choice for the luxury service industry in the Special Administrative Region.
The mission commenced at the Morpheus Hotel, where Julapun met with Lawrence Ho, CEO of COD Resorts Limited. The Minister acknowledged the company’s continued trust in the Thai workforce, which currently occupies over 45 diverse positions within the group, ranging from food and beverage services to specialized roles like spa therapists and professional butlers. To sustain this momentum, the Ministry of Labor plans to integrate specific employer requirements into its skill development programs, specifically focusing on overcoming language barriers in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
In a subsequent meeting with Keith Lei of MGM Grand Paradise Limited, the delegation focused on opening doors for recent graduates in the tourism and hospitality sectors. Recognizing MGM as a long-standing partner of the Thai Labor Office in Hong Kong—currently employing 66 Thai nationals—the discussions emphasized creating entry-level pathways that do not strictly require prior experience. This initiative is designed to provide young Thai professionals with stable income and growth opportunities within world-class service environments.
“The ultimate goal is not merely to export labor for employment, but to export the quality and potential of Thai people to be recognized globally,” Julapun stated following the talks. He emphasized that the Ministry would act as a central coordinator to streamline recruitment processes and enhance the vocational skills of Thai youths, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands of the global market.
Before concluding the visit, the Minister expressed gratitude to the Thai community in Macau for their role as cultural ambassadors. He noted that their unique service style and professionalism serve as a “quality guarantee” that enhances Thailand’s reputation abroad. The delegation accompanying the Minister included Secretary Surachat Thienthong, Permanent Secretary Pol. Lt. Col. Wannapong Kotcharuck, and the Directors-General of the Department of Employment and the Department of Skill Development, signaling a unified departmental push toward international labor expansion.
