China Affirms Neutral Stance in Cambodia-Thailand Border Dispute
Brickinfo News Agency – China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Sunday, July 28, indicating its continued neutral stance and ongoing communication with both Cambodia and Thailand regarding their border dispute. Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, stated that China is supporting peace talks and aims to play a constructive role in achieving a ceasefire in the disputed border areas.
Despite reported intentions from both Cambodia and Thailand to end hostilities following international mediation efforts, sporadic clashes persist along their shared border. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that Cambodia and Thailand are close neighbors and friends of China. China expressed deep regret over the loss of life and property suffered by both sides and extended sincere condolences.
The Chinese statement highlighted that maintaining good neighborly relations, mutual trust, and appropriately managing differences are crucial for the long-term interests of both Cambodia and Thailand. These factors also impact regional peace and security. China expressed hope that both sides would prioritize the well-being of their people, uphold peace and friendship, exercise restraint, achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible, and peacefully resolve their differences through dialogue to restore peace and stability along the border.
Furthermore, China commended the efforts of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which both Cambodia and Thailand are significant members, in working towards a ceasefire between the two parties. China welcomes all endeavors that contribute to de-escalating the situation.
