Thailand Rejects Cambodian Chemical Weapon Allegations
Brickinfo News Agency – The Royal Thai Armed Forces have strongly denied accusations from Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense regarding violations of Cambodian sovereignty and the use of chemical weapons. Thailand has categorized these claims as baseless allegations and a distortion of facts.
Lieutenant General Maly Socheata of Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense made the accusations. However, Thailand stated it has never adopted a policy to develop, produce, possess, or use chemical weapons. The nation emphasized its commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and international humanitarian law, particularly concerning civilian safety.
Thailand has accused Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense spokesperson of employing disinformation to create a false sense of legitimacy internationally. Thailand described this behavior as “irresponsible, deceitful, manipulative, and detrimental to peace and stability in the region.”
The Royal Thai Armed Forces maintain that their operations are necessary and proportionate responses to threats posed by Cambodia, which they identify as the initial aggressor. Thailand has indicated it will continue to provide explanations to the international community to highlight what it describes as Cambodian leadership’s misconduct, distortion of facts, and violations of humanitarian law. These actions, Thailand suggests, may constitute war crimes. Thailand has called on the international community to acknowledge and condemn such uses of disinformation.
