Brickinfo News Agency – SCG Chemicals (SCGC) has officially handed over 10,500 food-grade recycled food containers to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to support public welfare services. These containers are manufactured from plastic waste collected during various activities in Bangkok and processed using Advanced Recycling Technology, which transforms used plastics into high-quality materials safe for food contact. The initiative aims to demonstrate a practical closed-loop plastic management system within the capital, aligning with the city’s goals to reduce landfill waste and transition toward a low-carbon model.

The delivery was led by Mr. Chartree Iamsophon, Chief Commercial Officer of SCGC, and received by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt. The BMA plans to utilize these containers to package royal-provided meals for citizens paying their respects to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall. The distribution will be managed by the Social Development Department and the Royal Kitchen, coordinated through the Bureau of the Royal Household.

Technically, these containers are the result of a specialized collaboration between SCGC and the BMA focused on waste sorting and collection. The collected plastics are processed into Circular Naphtha, a feedstock used in petrochemical production to create Certified Circular Polyolefin resins under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER initiative. Unlike standard recycling, this advanced chemical process yields properties equivalent to virgin plastic, ensuring the final products meet stringent cleanliness and safety standards for food packaging.

This project highlights a commitment to circular economy principles by ensuring that plastic resources are maximized rather than discarded. By converting urban plastic waste back into functional, high-value products, the partnership supports Bangkok’s broader environmental policies on waste separation. This effort follows a previous collaboration where SCGC used mechanical recycling to produce 150 eco-friendly chairs for the BMA earlier this year.
