Australian Pop Artist CODY JON Releases New Single ‘Honey,’ Blending 2000s R&B with Old-Hollywood Sound
Brickinfo News Agency – Australian pop artist CODY JON has released his new single, “Honey,” a track that fuses throwback Pop/R&B elements with jazzy horns and cinematic strings. The song, which was co-produced with Oscar Sharah, draws inspiration from the sound of turn-of-the-millennium dance films and recounts a fictionalized story of club romance and a spontaneous encounter on a night out in Hollywood. The artist describes the song’s premise as capturing the fantasy of a night with friends suddenly turning into a scene from a 2000s dance movie, centering on the emotional rush of two strangers locking eyes and choosing to embrace a playful, fleeting connection.
The single’s production features Timbaland/Neptunes-inspired drums and cinematic strings, creating a lush sonic texture that intentionally nods to the early 2000s era. Adding a unique layer, CODY JON invited friends to provide playful spoken sections in the track’s bridge, referencing the style of cult classics like “Money” by The Flying Lizards. The artist noted the value of these additions, stating, “That part was pure joy to make. I love when songs don’t just sound like music but feel like a scene.”
The creation of “Honey” was marked by an unexpected setback when the original finished files were accidentally deleted, forcing the team to remake and re-record the track entirely. Despite the initial frustration, CODY JON ultimately viewed the incident as beneficial. “It was devastating at first,” he admitted, “but the new version ended up sounding even better than the demo. I think it was meant to be.”
