True Corporation Issues Warning on “SIM-Mule” Scams and Legal Consequences
Brickinfo News Agency – True Corporation has issued a warning to the public about the risks of registering SIM cards for other individuals in exchange for payment, a practice often referred to as becoming a “SIM-mule.” The company emphasizes that participating in such activities is a serious crime that can lead to severe penalties, including imprisonment and hefty fines, for both the person hiring the registrant and the person who registers the SIM card.
The warning comes as True Corporation observes a trend of individuals being recruited on social media to act as “SIM-mules.” The company stresses that these actions are illegal under the Royal Decree on Measures for the Prevention and Suppression of Technology Crimes B.E. 2566 (2023) and its amendment, Royal Decree (No.2) B.E. 2568 (2025).
According to the law, individuals who hire others to register SIM cards can face up to five years of imprisonment and a fine of up to THB 500,000. Those who agree to act as “SIM-mules” and register the cards on behalf of others face up to three years of imprisonment and a fine of up to THB 300,000. True Corporation advises the public to protect their personal data and avoid any involvement in these schemes.
