Brickinfo News Agency – Apple has officially announced that John Ternus, the company’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, will succeed Tim Cook as Chief Executive Officer effective September 1, 2026. A veteran with over two decades at the tech giant, Ternus has been a pivotal figure in the development of Apple’s most iconic hardware, ranging from the earliest iPad models to the transition of the Mac lineup. His appointment marks a significant leadership transition for the world’s most valuable company as it nears its 50th anniversary.

John Ternus joined Apple in 2001 as part of the Product Design team. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and previously worked at Virtual Research Systems. His career trajectory within Apple saw him promoted to Vice President of Hardware Engineering in 2013, eventually joining the executive team as Senior Vice President in 2021. Throughout his 25-year tenure, Ternus has overseen the engineering of the iPhone, AirPods, and the revitalized Mac division.

Beyond core product development, Ternus has been instrumental in Apple’s shift toward product sustainability and durability. Under his leadership, the company integrated new material innovations, such as recycled aluminum and 3D-printed titanium components used in the Apple Watch Ultra 3. He has also focused on improving internal product structures to enhance repairability, a move aimed at extending device lifespans and reducing the company’s total carbon footprint.

The announcement comes with high praise from outgoing CEO Tim Cook, who has led the company since 2011. Cook highlighted the depth of experience Ternus brings to the role, stating, “John possesses a vision that is difficult to match. His contributions over the past 25 years are countless, and he is undoubtedly the right person to lead Apple into the future.”
