First Naphtha Shipment from Middle East Arrives Safely at SCGC Rayong Port
Brickinfo News Agency – SCG Chemicals (SCGC) has confirmed the successful arrival of its first naphtha feedstock shipment from the Strait of Hormuz at the Map Ta Phut Tank Terminal in Rayong. The vessel, carrying 55,000 tons of naphtha, is a critical delivery intended to stabilize the domestic supply chain and support the production of approximately 20,000 tons of plastic resins amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
The arrival was overseen by Dr. Suracha Udomsak, Chief Operations and Innovation Officer, and Mr. Chatri Eamsobhana, Chief Commercial Officer. The company formally acknowledged the cooperation of the Thai government and relevant agencies in facilitating the safe transit of the cargo through high-risk international waters. This shipment marks a significant milestone in maintaining industrial production continuity for Thailand’s petrochemical sector.
Regarding the remaining logistics, SCGC reported that a second shipment consisting of 27,000 tons of naphtha remains within the Strait of Hormuz. The shipping operator is currently monitoring the regional situation before proceeding with the voyage. To address potential shortages caused by these delays, the company is actively diversifying its raw material sources and optimizing production efficiency to ensure that domestic demand remains the primary priority.
“SCGC continues to proactively adjust its strategies in line with the evolving situation,” the company stated, emphasizing its efforts to mitigate impacts on customers and businesses throughout the supply chain. By accelerating procurement from alternative regions, the firm aims to buffer the Thai market against the volatility of global energy and feedstock supplies.
The 55,000-ton cargo was officially received by the executive team alongside the vessel’s Master Captain, Sheel Kumar Sharma, and Chief Engineer, Shafiq Un Nabi. The naphtha will be processed at SCGC’s facilities in Rayong Province, serving as a vital input for various downstream plastic manufacturing industries that rely on consistent feedstock availability to maintain operations.
