The initiative expands the E-Waste TinkTookTee DTorJai program into island communities to tackle the environmental risks of improperly discarded electronics. Under this project, residents can discard electronic waste at designated collection points, utilizing the True App to locate drop-off points and receive rewards through a “Drop for Reward” system. True stated that the collected electronics will be processed through a systematic recycling workflow to fulfill its Zero E-Waste to Landfill commitment, supporting a circular economy.

Oliver Kittipong Veeratecha, Chief Brand and Communications Officer of True Corporation Public Company Limited, stated that the company aims to protect marine environments by linking volunteer networks and local businesses. “In addition to addressing general waste that affects the marine environment, True also places great importance on raising awareness of electronic waste, or E-Waste, a silent environmental threat that many people may overlook,” Oliver said. “When improperly disposed of, E-Waste can release toxic substances and heavy metals into waterways and marine ecosystems, causing long-term environmental damage.”

To handle communication and coordination across the islands, True is utilizing its 5G network and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The company employs AI to monitor network quality continuously and manage energy efficiency at base stations by automatically adjusting operations based on real-time data demand. True has also deployed solar energy systems at its network sites to reduce operational energy consumption.

Aut Arunrattanapong, Head of Regional Management (South) of True Corporation Public Company Limited, explained that islands like Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao experience significant surges in data traffic during peak tourism periods. “During these periods, restaurants, cafés, hotels, tourism operators, visitors and the growing workation community generate significantly higher data traffic through social media engagement, video streaming, real-time content sharing, online meetings, digital payments and a wide range of digital services,” Aut said, noting that True uses AI to analyze usage patterns and optimize performance for these localized trends.

The cleanup operations serve as a prelude to the Thailand Sustainable Island Tourism Symposium 2026, which is scheduled to run from June 11–13 on Koh Samui to advance national sustainable tourism policies. True also noted its ongoing inclusion in global sustainability indices, having been ranked among the Top 1% of sustainable companies in the telecommunications industry by S&P Global for consecutive years.

Regarding international tourism, mobility data from TrueMove H and dtac networks revealed distinct visitor trends during the final week of the year. The top five international markets entering Thailand via TrueMove H were China, Malaysia, Russia, the United States, and India. Conversely, dtac data identified Austria, China, the United States, Russia, and Sweden as the leading inbound markets. These visitors primarily traveled across Bangkok and major provincial tourist hubs, maintaining strong momentum for the country’s tourism sector. Southern provinces saw notable growth in foreign interest, with Surat Thani recording an 80% increase and Satun jumping by approximately 115%, driven by island tourism and cultural attractions.

Domestic travel patterns showed a strong trend of residents returning to hometowns, particularly in the Northeastern region. The top destination provinces for TrueMove H users included Buriram and Phetchabun, while dtac users heavily traveled to Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen. Notably, Surin experienced the highest growth among Thai travelers on the TrueMove H network at approximately 30%. This rise was attributed to extended holidays and temporary relocations related to the situation at the Thai–Cambodian border. Meanwhile, Phetchabun saw a 32% growth among dtac users, reflecting the continued popularity of cool-climate destinations like Khao Kho and Phu Thap Boek.

Across all platforms, Facebook remained the most utilized application for both mobile and home internet users on countdown night. Other top applications included YouTube, LINE, TikTok, and Instagram. TrueID app usage specifically increased by 110% as users consumed entertainment content. Peak network usage times were recorded between 21:00–22:00 for TrueMove H and True Online, and 20:00–21:00 for dtac on December 31, 2025.
