According to the “Southern Perspectives on the Landbridge Project” survey, which sampled 1,333 individuals with varying levels of prior knowledge, approximately 67.22% of respondents expressed support for the project. Within this group, 34.21% stated they strongly agree, while 33.01% somewhat agree. Conversely, 32.78% of participants voiced disagreement, highlighting a clear divide in public opinion that the government intends to bridge through more detailed engagement.

A critical takeaway from the poll was the level of comprehension among locals; 54.53% of respondents admitted that while they had heard of the Landbridge, they possessed only a minimal understanding of its details. Government Spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek identified this as a primary challenge for the state, emphasizing that the government must accelerate its efforts to reach those who remain unfamiliar with the project’s scope and potential impacts.

“The Prime Minister has instructed all relevant agencies to expedite public understanding of the Landbridge project, which is a cornerstone of the nation’s infrastructure development,” Ms. Ratchada stated. “The government remains open to continuous feedback from all sectors to ensure that decision-making is comprehensive and yields the maximum benefit for the country.”

The project continues to draw both support and scrutiny from academics and stakeholders. While many agree that the Landbridge is a strategic move to enhance Thailand’s logistics competitiveness, job creation, and foreign investment, concerns persist regarding the actual investment value, economic viability, and environmental and social consequences. The government has reassured the public that these factors are undergoing detailed study to establish appropriate mitigation measures.

Ms. Ratchada concluded by reiterating the Prime Minister’s stance on clarity: “The Prime Minister emphasizes that every issue must be clearly explainable. Although there is overall support, there are still public concerns. The government must therefore communicate more effectively, foster understanding, and maintain a continuous dialogue to ensure the project moves forward carefully and with public acceptance.”
