Brickinfo News Agency – Global e-reader leader Rakuten Kobo has officially entered the Thai market through a strategic partnership with Meb Corporation Public Company Limited, aiming to tap into a sector currently valued at over 140 million baht. This expansion comes as Thailand’s e-reader market experiences a 60% growth rate, fueled by a shift in consumer behavior toward digital reading and a demand for specialized devices that offer a distraction-free environment. The partnership was highlighted by the launch of three flagship e-readers at the 54th Thailand National Book Fair, signaling a significant move to professionalize and expand the local digital reading ecosystem.

The collaboration addresses a global upward trend in the digital book industry. Julian Chou, General Manager of Rakuten Kobo Asia, noted that the global e-book market is expected to expand from 577 billion baht in 2025 to 603 billion baht in 2026. “The e-book and e-reader market in Asia is particularly worth watching as an emerging market with high growth potential,” Chou stated. He emphasized that modern e-readers have evolved into multi-functional tools for listening to audiobooks and note-taking, acting as a “private space” that helps users reduce social media fatigue by eliminating disruptive notifications.

To capture the Thai audience, the brand introduced the Kobo Libra Colour, a 7-inch device with handwriting support, the Kobo Clara Colour, and the classic black-and-white Kobo Clara BW. These devices feature E Ink Kaleido 3 technology, offering eye-friendly color displays, IPX8 waterproofing, and long-lasting battery life capable of storing up to 24,000 e-books. The integration of the ComfortLight PRO system also targets health-conscious readers by reducing blue light strain, a key selling point for a market increasingly familiar with high-quality digital infrastructure.

On the domestic side, Ravivon Mahasith, CEO of Meb Corporation, revealed that the Thai e-book market is now worth approximately 3 billion baht. Surveys from the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand indicate that e-book consumption among fair-goers rose from 20% in 2020 to 29% in 2025. “The market remains on a growth trajectory due to the increasing volume and variety of content, a wider selection of affordable reading devices, and growing reader acceptance,” Mahasith explained. He added that the partnership with Rakuten Kobo aligns with ESG principles by reducing paper consumption while providing Thai consumers with authentic global products and reliable after-sales service.

The new product lineup is currently being showcased at the 54th Thailand National Book Fair at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center until April 6, 2026. Promotional pricing has been set to attract early adopters, with the Kobo Libra Colour priced at 9,990 baht, alongside discounts for the Clara series. Distribution will expand beyond the event to B2S stores, Readership.me, and major online marketplaces. This entry by a global giant marks a turning point for Thailand’s digital publishing landscape, transitioning from a niche interest to a mainstream consumer technology segment.
