Brickinfo News Agency – SCG Chemicals (SCGC) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental restoration by partnering with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) to celebrate National Mangrove Forest Day 2026. The collaboration aims to drive a “Nature Positive” impact through extensive reforestation and the deployment of marine debris management technology. By integrating sustainable mangrove management with advanced ecological innovations, the initiative seeks to rebalance Thailand’s coastal ecosystems while addressing the urgent challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss.

The 16th National Mangrove Seminar, held at the King Rama IX International Mangrove Botanical Garden in Chanthaburi, was presided over by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin. The event gathered officials from the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) and provincial leaders to discuss strategies for protecting Thailand’s vital coastal barriers. Since 2022, SCGC has served as a key partner in the DMCR’s sustainable management projects, successfully restoring more than 1,100 rai of mangrove forests across the provinces of Rayong, Chonburi, and Phetchaburi.

A significant milestone in this partnership is SCGC’s achievement as the first private entity in Thailand to receive the Premium T-VER certification from the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO). This certification recognizes the company’s efforts in carbon sequestration through high-standard mangrove conservation. Furthermore, the company has worked closely with the Marine and Coastal Resources Office 1 to rehabilitate an additional 480 rai of forest in Rayong province between 2017 and 2025, ensuring long-term ecological health for local fishing communities.

In addition to planting efforts, SCGC is utilizing technical innovations to mitigate marine pollution and enhance aquatic habitats. These projects include the SCGC Fish Home initiative, which creates artificial shelters for marine life, and the installation of 72 SCGC-DMCR Litter Traps across 19 coastal provinces to intercept waste before it enters the open ocean. Another notable circular economy project mentioned during the event was Nets Up, which focuses on upcycling discarded fishing nets into high-quality materials, reducing the prevalence of “ghost nets” in the sea.

The seminar concluded with technical insights on conservation from Prof. Dr. Sanit Aksornkoae, President of the International Society for Mangrove Ecosystems (ISME). Following the discussions, participants engaged in a symbolic mangrove planting session and the release of aquatic species into the wild. These activities highlight the ongoing shift from traditional CSR toward a Nature Positive framework, where industrial leaders and government agencies collaborate to ensure that natural resources are not just preserved, but actively improved for future generations.
