The incident began on the night of May 23, 2026, when numerous Facebook users reported seeing pornographic broadcasts randomly populating their feeds, despite having no history of seeking out or viewing such adult content. The explicit streams remained visible to many users through the evening of May 24.

In response to the situation, Meta released a brief statement to the media through an official representative. A Meta spokesperson stated, “Sexually explicit content violates our Community Standards. We have removed the violating content and taken action against the accounts behind this incident. We continue to monitor and remove any remaining content that violates our policies.” The tech giant did not disclose the identities of the individuals or entities responsible for the breach.

Concurrently, the Metropolitan Investigation Bureau (IDMB) issued a public warning regarding the viral broadcasts. The bureau stated that merely watching, liking, or sharing these pornographic live streams constitutes a legal offense, carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of up to 100,000 baht. However, the agency did not address the potential liability of the social media platform itself regarding negligence in letting the content reach the public.

To address the platform’s handling of the situation, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) has scheduled an urgent press conference to establish strict measures for preventing and suppressing illegal activities on social media platforms. The briefing will be chaired by Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiachonok Chidchob on Monday, May 25, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the press conference room on the second floor of the ministry building.
